The Kieffer pear is considered an accidental hybrid and is known for its hardiness and rapid growth. It’s a long-living, disease-resistant tree that produces large, bountiful crops. This variety is highly adaptable, thriving in both northern and southern climates, and is particularly popular in the South, where it is the most widely planted pear.
Kieffer pears are large, long, and golden yellow with a crimson blush. The flesh is crisp, white, and coarse in texture, making it ideal for canning, baking, preserves, and making pear honey. The tree blooms late in the season, with fruit ripening from mid-September to mid-October.
While Kieffer pears are self-fertile, planting multiple trees can enhance the crop yield. They also tolerate hot climates, making them a versatile choice for various growing conditions.
