About Us

We’re Derek and Heather Richardson, the faces behind Richardson Roots. What started as a shared love for plants and outdoor spaces has grown into a family business built on passion, creativity, and care.

Derek’s love of plants and landscaping started in childhood, where he learned from his mom how to select, plant, and design spaces that thrive. Heather came into gardening after we met in 2016, inspired to grow fresh fruits and vegetables at home. Together, we’ve poured countless hours into transforming our yard into a place filled with trees, flowers, and thoughtful design—a space that brings joy every time we step outside.

In 2019, we bought our first home and quickly realized how much fulfillment we found in creating beautiful, functional outdoor spaces. That dream led to Richardson Roots: a way to share our knowledge, provide high-quality plants and products, and help others create landscapes and gardens they’re proud of. From shipping plants safely across the country to offering specialized equipment like reel mowers, our goal is to make lawn and garden care simple, inspiring, and rewarding.

Along the way, our family has grown too. We welcomed our son in 2023 and our daughter in 2025. They’ve added even more meaning to what we do—reminding us that home is about more than just a house or a yard; it’s about creating lasting roots for our family and yours.

Most importantly, our faith guides everything we do. We believe God has blessed us with the opportunity to grow this business and serve others, and we hope that the spaces we help create bring joy, peace, and connection to the families we work with.

He told them a story. “Look at a fig tree. Any tree for that matter. When the leaves begin to show, one look tells you that summer is right around the corner. The same here—when you see these things happen, you know God’s kingdom is about here. Don’t brush this off: I’m not just saying this for some future generation, but for this one, too—these things will happen.
