The Brightwell blueberry is a hybrid variety of the Rabbiteye blueberry that produces medium to large, sweet, and firm berries. The berries are darker than most rabbiteye blueberries and are great for eating fresh or baking.
A compact, upright shrub that can grow up to 10 feet tall. It has attractive foliage that turns a deep red in the fall. The shrub produces small, bell-shaped pink flowers in the spring.
The Brightwell blueberry is adaptable to various soil types and pH levels, and is tolerant of heat and humidity. It's a low chill variety that produces best in warmer areas and is fairly drought tolerant.
Self-incompatible, so it requires cross-pollination with another blueberry variety to produce fruit. Some suitable cross-pollination partners include Emerald, Sharpblue, Jewel, Misty, and O'Neal.
Ready to eat about two months after the first flowers appear, and the harvest period is about 35 days. The berries are easy to pick with a gentle tug.
